Condensed Matter

The Physics Department at Simon Fraser University has a long history of diverse and important research in magnetism, superconductivity, semiconductors and condensed matter theory. Condensed matter researchers have access to a wide range of world-class resources, including a state-of-the-art nanofabrication facility in SFU’s 4D Labs, the internationally renowned μSR program at TRIUMF, SFU’s excellent Nano-Imaging centre, several systems for the growth of high quality epitaxial structures, and a wide range of dedicated facilities for materials characterization at temperatures ranging from 0.03 K to over room temperature. Research in condensed matter physics is grouped into three overlapping areas: quantum matter, semiconductors and nanoscience.
